Nice pics, thankyou -

Please don't take this as a criticism, since it's obvious you have exceptional skill from your Gen3 pics, but the Gen2 pic seems very blurry, especially in the rural shots. The stars seem rather large and out of focus.

I was hoping you could comment further on this?

Thanks
David

Hi David,

No problem, I don't take that like a criticism !
I took this pics with a panasonic FZ50. And I have selected manual mode for focal length, shutter speed and manual focus ! I tried to photographed the same thing as what I saw!
This gen2+ is an old glass/glass tube intensifier and I don't arrived to have good pics with it. She have a lot of pronounced scintillation in very low light condition ! And the sensibility of the tube is very small <350.
I think with a IR source or 1/4, 1/2 moon, it will be good.
I will do another test this week with some another pics !

Chris,

I agree with David, you put up some real nice photos. You managed to do a good job of capturing the higher sensitivity of the thin-filmed tube over the standard. The NQ 100 is a real nice unit, especially compared with the old US gen II MX-9916. The only thing I dislike on the 100 is the inherent distortion of the output window on the tube. There was one that a friend had me adapt to c-mount, very easy to do and the performed well for his urban envirnment requirements.

Hi, and thank you for your post !
I have doing some news pics this evening !!

Outdoor condition, no moon, no clouds, only star light

In this condition, we can see the difference between Omni V and Omni VII

Image

Image
In the woods, I don't see gain performance between the two NV, only a little great resolution on the Omni VII

To resume, the gain performance between Omni V and Omni VII is not spectacular! With a pinnacle tube autogated and thinfilmed, you will have a little more of clarity and resolution. But no variable gain on MX10160c tube !
The advantage of MX11769 is the variable gain ! If you little turn lower gain, you will get a picture darker but more details and less noise !
Difficult choise !!

Hi,

In Europe a similarly spec'ed omni vii tube new will cost about 6100 to 6500 euros, depending of the tube type MX10160 or MX11769 and gently used about 3900 Euros. In the US it should be less expensive ! And none technical export restriction
