Hallo and sorry for spamming here around but I need a professional opinion about those 4 binoculars.
Now that I'm not shure about buying the "Seben commando goggles" I'm looking for different, better devices.
Have I found them? Are they good (better then this Seben crap?)?
ATN Night Scout 1st Generation Binocular
ATN Night Jaguar 1st Generation Binocular (this one looks most interesting of all; also very robust!)
ATN Night Shadow 1st Generation Binocular
D-211 Generation 1+ Binocular
Please write your personal opinion about those devices (maybe you know better ones for the same price?). Is anyone here an owner of those?
Just let me know...
Thank you a lot! |

I think you should choose between the NightScout and the D-211 and discard the other two. As far as the comparison, they are about the same on performance, but the NightScout has more "bells and whistles" _________________ Michael

Thanks for help!
So you would choose the Night Scout? I think I'll buy this device.
Can you explain to me how this camcorder-adapting works? What would I need for that (except of an camcorder or a camera; I haven't both of them )?
What would I have to do just to shoot a short film with that? |

I am not sure if I would recommend a gen 1 if your primary purpose is camera adaptility. While some Gen 1 units perform ok with cameras (you can see Tom's excellent posts in Reviews and Images sections), those are 1x magnification. When you go to higher magnifications, you cut down your light intake, decrease your field of view, etc. I do not think that you will like the images (which you can make more or less ok, when you are using an SLR camera and can adjust the exposure and focus), let alone video using gen 1. _________________ Michael

Finally I haven't bought this 1st generation Binoculars, but another night vision devices.
I have planned now to buy some 3rd or 4th generation night vision binuculars in a few years. I couldn't find any 4th gen. device except of the "ATN Night Shadow IV 64 lp/mm 4th Generation Film Less Binocular with" Tube Data Sheet
". Does others like that exist? Or would be a "D-321B Generation 3 Select Alpha Dual-Tube Binocular" also be okay?
The only problem is, that the D-321B is "just" a 3rd gen. device and I couldn't film with it. On the other side the "ATN Night Shadow IV" doesn't seem to be real binoculars at all. Isn't it just a device with only one lense and two IR-illuminators or are those two lenses and the big IR-illuminatior in the middle? (It just looks very strange, but this has not to have to do anything with it's function and quality.).
(And yes, I have composed this thread. For some reason I just couldn't log in before that. Now it works.) |

The Night Shadow is a biocular (one lens up front, two in the back). The D-321 Select Alpha (thin film) will perform on the same level. However, I see from your registration that you are in Austria. If that is the case, then I do not think you will be able to get your hands on either of those (unless through black market), since both Gen 3 and filmless technologies are restricted from export. _________________ Michael
